Passed away at age 87, Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born July 26, 1930, in Twining, MI, the son of Samuel and Bertha (Barr) Davis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
September 2, 1954, he married Darlene Ruth Proffitt in Redford Twp., MI, and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2014. Al had lived in the area for the past three years, coming from Stockbridge where he attended the First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge. He had worked for Ford for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling, especially to Texas, and he loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Jane) Davis of Chelsea, and three grandchildren: Jason, Brian, and Tyler. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ira and Mike, and his sister, Lydia Isle.
A memorial service will take place at 1pm, Saturday, September 23, 2017, from the Chelsea Retirement Community Main Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Valley Cemetery, Twining. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Retirement Communities Heritage Foundation, 805 W. Middle St., Chelsea, MI 48118 (please designate “in memory of Alfred Davis” in the memo).
