Area Football Teams Qualify for MHSAA Playoffs




Four area football teams earned qualifying bids to the MHSAA post season and Sunday night they learned their opening round matches.

In Division 1 Saline (9-0) will host Belleville (7-2) Friday night at 7:00 PM. With a win, the Hornets second round opponent will be the winner of Northville (7-2) and Canton (7-2).

Pinckney qualified in Division 2. The Pirates (7-2) will host Walled Lake Northern (6-3) in a rematch as the two teams just played Friday in the season finale. The Pirates will be hosting their first home playoff game since 2001 and the first on the turf of Pirate Stadium. With a win the Pirates will face the winner of Walled Lake Western (8-1) and South Lyon (5-4).

In Division 3, Chelsea (9-0) will host Vicksburg (7-2) Friday at 7:00 PM. With a win, Chelsea will play the winner of Coldwater (7-2) and Battle Creek Harper Creek (7-2). A game with Coldwater would be a rematch of the 2015 Division 3 semifinal game which the Bulldogs won.

In Division 5, Stockbridge (5-4) earned an at-large bid and will travel to Ida (8-1) Friday night at 7:00 PM. A win and the Panthers would play the winner of Brooklyn Columbia Central (7-2) and Southfield Brandon (7-2). A game with Columbia Central would be a matchup of former TRAC rivals before the conference disolved.

Other area teams that qualified for the state playoffs are Grass Lake, Michigan Center, Dansville, Fowlerville, Howell, Brighton, Manchester, Williamston, Adrian, and Webberville in 8-man football.
