Baseball Improves to 9-0 in SEC White

A three game sweep of Adrian put the Dexter baseball team on top of the SEC White with a pair of showdowns looming.

Dexter improved to 9-0 in the conference and faced off with Tecumseh in a showdown for the top spot in the White earlier this week. Depending what happens in those three games, the Dreads will face off with rival Chelsea next week.

The Dreads fell behind early against the Maples in the opener as Adrian jumped to a 3-2 lead after one.

Dexter exploded for five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take an 11-6 lead. Two more runs in the sixth put the game away.

Joey Hiser had a big game with three hits, two RBI, and scored three runs. Seth Jaimez added three hits, a RBI, and scored three times, while Chase Rojeck had two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Cam Milne added two hits and a RBI, Stewie Weber a hit and two RBI, Ryan Flattery a hit and two RBI, and Brenden Ritter a hit and RBI. Jaimez earned the win on the mound with four strikeouts.

While the first game was a slugfest, the second was anything but that as the Dreadnaughts pulled out a 1-0 pitchers dual.

Micah Berlage went the distance on the mound, striking out seven and allowing just five hits.

The lone run of the game came in the third inning when the Dreads loaded the bases with no one out. Milne drew a walk to force in Flattery for a 1-0 lead. A strike out and a double play got the Maples out of the jam, but it is all Berlage and the Dreads would need.

The Maples put a runner on third with one out in the fourth, but got the next two batter to pop out and ground out to end the threat.

Adrian put a runner on in the seventh with one out, but a pair of flyouts to Hiser in center ended the game.

Hiser and Jaimez had two hits apiece, while Milne had a hit and RBI. Grant Katcher, Rojeck, and Flattery each added a hit.

The Dreads finished the three game sweep with a 4-0 win May 5.

Nick Winston and Caden Koenig combined for the six hit shutout, both striking out one.

Michael Bradhaw led the offense with a hit and two RBI. Hiser and Weber had two hits apiece, while Jaimez had a hit and RBI.

Dexter improved to 16-3 overall on the season.
