Camelot – Another Great Production from Dexter’s own Encore Musical Theatre
By Jennifer Brough
Stephen West, Olivia Hernandez, and David Moan return to the Encore Musical Theatre to lead a powerful performance of Camelot, the love triangle story of King Arthur, Guenevere, and Sir Lancelot. A standing ovation in the packed theatre on opening night was testament to Encore’s outstanding production of this classic.
Immortalized in the The Once and Future King novel by T.H.White, the story is captured in Camelot, the musical adaption by Lerner and Loewe with all time favorite songs like What do the Simple Folk Do, Before I Gaze at You Again, and How to Handle a Woman
Wendy Katzhiller, Assistant Director, said her favorite song is If Ever I Would Leave You, Lancelot’s love song to Guenevere. “It just captures the heartbreak of this love story and David brings out the emotion superbly. I’m in tears every time I hear it. Camelot is normally such a huge pageant of a show, but the small intimate setting of the Encore works so well for this story.”
On Friday night the audience was entranced with the performance from Metropolitan Opera baritone, Stephen West who gladly returns to Encore’s stage as King Arthur. Stephen’s powerful voice is matched by the melodic voice of Olivia Hernandez as Guenevere, and David Moan’s strong tones as Sir Lancelot.
Joining Stephen, Olivia, and David, are Tyler Lynch (Mordred), Michael Szymanski (Pellinore), Alex Cantu (Tom of Warwick), Karina Stribley (Nimue/Ensemble), Jim Walke (Merlin/Ensemble), Sebastian Gerstner (Sir Dinadan/Ensemble), Dan Helmer (Sir Lionel/Ensemble), Jonah Robinson (Sir Sagramore/Ensemble), Timothy E Brayman (Clarius/Ensemble), Billy Eric Robinson (Squire Dap/Ensemble), Meredith Steinke (Ensemble/Dance Capt), Luciana Piazza (Lady Sybil/Ensemble), Maika Van Oosterhaut (Ensemble), Maria Reed (Lady Anne/Ensemble), and Anna Rose Daugherty (Ensemble).
