Despite being a little under the weather, the Chelsea girls’ cross country team came home with a Corunna Early Bird Invitational title last week.

The Bulldogs finished with 51 points, just beating out second place St Johns with 58.

Caroline Hirth led the Bulldogs with a 5th place finish in 20:32 and Sydney Matusik was right behind in 6th with a time if 20:44.

Alison Hause finished 10th in 21:40, while Riley Thorburn was 13th in 21:53. Allison Hughes was 17th in 22:06, Andrea Kowalski 18th in 22:15, and Natalie Gofton 26th in 22:55.

“This was a good start for us. We had a number of girls who were under the weather with some kind of ailments, but they toughed it out and finished the race. I was extremely proud of their efforts,” coach Pat Clarke said. “Four of our top seven were running their first varsity race ever.We were happy to win this meet over two top ten ranked teams from last year.”
