Chelsea Soccer Falls in District Opener

The Chelsea soccer team saw its season come to an end as the Bulldogs fell to Adrian 2-1 in the district opener October 17.

The Bulldogs took an early lead, but could not hold on as the Maples took advantage of a couple of penalty calls. Nathan Quintana beat a defender and sent a nice crossing pass across the net that Josh Kowalski drove home to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Bulldogs were called for a penalty that resulted in a direct kick from about 30 yards out for the Maples. The shot deflected off the wall set up out front and redirected into the corner past a diving Logan Mahalak.

A short time later, with 10:37 left in the half, the Bulldogs were called for takedown in the box and the Maples were awarded a penalty kick. The shot found the corner and gave Adrian a 2-1 lead.

Chelsea tried to pressure the Maples in the second half and had a couple of good scoring chances, but could not find the equalizer as Adrian held on for the win to end the Bulldogs season.

The Bulldogs are a young squad with just five seniors and will have high hopes in 2018.
