The Dexter girls’ basketball team opened the 2017/18 season with a strong 36-25 win over Parma Western last week.
The Dreadnaughts return the majority of the team from last season that finished 11-10 overall and have high hopes for this season.
In typical Dexter fashion, a stellar lock down defense dominated from the start. The Dreadnaughts did not allow the Panthers to score more than eight points in any quarter.
The Dreads jumped out to a 10-5 lead after one quarter and blew things open with a 12-3 run in the second for a 22-8 halftime lead.
Western tried to chip away at the Dreadnaughts lead and pulled within 27-16 after three, but Dexter held the Panthers to just five points in the fourth quarter to put away the win.
Nicole Tuzinowski and Sammi Corcoran scored seven points each to lead the Dreadnaughts.
Mary Webby added six points, while Ryleigh Bavineau, Kaila Simpson, and Kylee Niswonger scored four each. Kendall Rosevelt chipped in with three points.
