Manchester Mulls Sculpture Donation

The Village of Manchester has taken the next steps to inquire about an art donation from Doug North, of Jackson, MI.

North emailed members of the Village Council last month and offered the donation of a sculpture of a wolverine as well as a plaque in tribute to Gerald R. Ford, the only U.S. President from Michigan.

Discussions for the acceptance of the donation were contingent upon paperwork that needed to be reviewed and filled out, where the sculpture would go if it were to be accepted, installation costs, why he was offering the donation and the cost of upkeep of the sculpture for the Village.

North said he would like the statue placed outside the village office building, but members of council discussed putting it in one of the parks located within the village so more people see the sculpture.

The Council agreed to use an attorney to do an appraisal of the statue to find out more information before accepting the donation.
