Pinckney Baseball Has Rough Week

While they continue to show improvement, the Pinckney baseball team had a rough week dropping five games.

The Pirates dropped a pair of hard fought 3-2 decisions to Grand Blanc April 20.

Evan Anderson doubled in a run in the first inning to give the Pirates the lead. Grand Blanc tied it in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth.

The Pirates tied it in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Kyle White, but the Bobcats scored a run on a walkoff double in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

White finished with two hits and a RBI, and Anderson a hit and RBI. Evan Fackler added a double and Luke Rendell a single for the Pirates. Dolyn Meinecke took the loss on the mound, striking out five.

The second game was nearly identical with the Pirates taking a lead in the first and Grand Blanc scoring late to pull out the win.

Rendell started things off with a RBI single in the first, but the Bobcats scored run in the 1st and 2nd for a 2-1 lead.

The Pirates tied things in the third on a RBI single by Adam Badalucco. The score stayed that way until the sixth when Grand Blanc scored on a sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead and pull out the win.

The offense could muster just two hits in the contest. Fackler pitched well, but took the loss on the mound, striking out two and allowing just three hits.

Pinckney dropped a pair of nonleague games to Dexter April 22.

The Pirates overcome a 4 run deficit to tie the game in the sixth, but Dexter scored a run in the seventh to pull out the 5-4 win.

Dexter jumped to a 4-0 lead in the third, but Anderson had a RBI groundout to cut the lead to 4-1. It stayed that way until the sixth when the Pirates rallied.

The Pirates loaded the bases with no one out and RBI’s by Badalucco, Drew Cortez, and Sully Davis tied the game at 4-4 with still no one out in the inning. A pop out to second made it one out, and the Pirates had a runner thrown out at the plate on a fly ball to right to end the inning.

A double, sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly scored the go ahead run in the top of the 7th for Dexter. Pinckney put runners on 1st and 3rd with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but a ground out ended the game.

White took the loss on the mound, striking out two. Rendell, Meinecke, and White had the Pirates three hits.

The Pirates dropped a 13-3 decision to Lakeland in a KLAA crossover earlier in the week. Stats were not available.
