The Saline boys soccer team squared of against a pair of familiar SEC Red rivals last week, with the squad battling back to get one tie and boasting one win in the contests.
The Hornets first fought back to earn the 2-2 tie at Ann Arbor Skyline Sept. 5. Skyline opened the scoring in the first half, but Saline drew even on a goal from senior Jack Fenelon, and the two sides carried the 1-1 score into halftime.
After the break, Skyline again scored first, taking the 2-1 lead. However, junior Ryan Nichols notched the game-tying goal with less than 16 minutes left in the contest to draw the Hornets even again. Neither team would be able to net the game winner the rest of the way.
On a rainy night, Saline then blanked Ann Arbor Pioneer 2-0 at home Aug. 7. Senior Anthony Sweier netted both goals for the Hornets, while the defense claimed the shutout over their SEC Red foe.
