The Saline hockey team built an early lead and held on after a ferocious late rally by Ann Arbor Pioneer for a 5-3 win last week.
The Hornets came out strong and took a 5-0 lead by midway through the third period, but Pioneer would score three goals in five minutes to cut the lead to 5-3.
A five minute major called on Saline allowed Pioneer some life and they capitalized with a pair of goals. Another goal with 1:40 left in the game made it 5-3, but the Hornets held them off for the win.
Brendan Murphy led Saline with two goals and an assist. William Wynn, Gordie Niethammer, and Zach Harrison each scored one goal, while Aidan Arbaugh, Tom Raupp, and Yanic Sadek each had an assist.
The Hornets improved to 3-0 on the season.
