The Saline Rec Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary June 12 with a host of festivities and activities that will be open to everyone at no charge.
The event will kick off at 1 pm at the flag pole entrance with a brief ceremony featuring several guest speakers. Following the ceremony, everyone will be invited inside for cake, desserts and punch.
“There’s going to be food and a lot of festivities,” Saline Mayor Brian Marl said.
The festivities will include music, a bounce house, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, balloon animals and sidewalk chalk. Activities will include tether ball, sand volleyball and a zumba class on the tennis courts at 2:30 pm.
“We’re really excited about this event. It’s a big milestone,” said Carla Scruggs, the parks and recreation director. “It will be a very fun, festive day.”
Further, Saline firefighters will be on the pool deck cooking hot dogs, and Magic Joe will be walking around performing magic tricks. There will also be a giveaway for those who attend. “I would like everyone to be able to join us. We’re going to have a really cool giveaway for everyone that shows up,” Scruggs said.
The Saline Rec Center is located at 1866 Woodland Drive in Saline. The Rec Center will open as usual at 6 am on June 12, so people can get their morning fitness in, but will then close at 11 am so staff can get the building ready for the festivities. The event will then begin at 1 pm and last until 4 pm.
The Rec Center first opened its doors in June 1991 and has been serving the Saline community ever since. For those interested in the amenities the Rec Center has to offer, staff will be on hand to give tours and show people around the facility during the anniversary celebration. Memberships will also be available for purchase.
“Please encourage folks to attend the event,” Marl said. “I think it will be a really nice time.”
