The area will be well represented at the girls state swim and dive finals around the state this weekend.
Saline will take part in the Division 1 state finals at Oakland University Friday and Saturday.The Hornets enter the meet ranked #1 in Division 1 and will be one of the favorites to bring home the title. Saline is anchored by All State Senior Lizzy Spears, who signed a letter of intent this week to swim at Arizona State University. Johanna Jorgenson, Maddie Luther, and Emily Klemptner show great potential for high scores for the Hornets when they shoot for the state title.
Dexter enters the Division 2 State Finals at Holland ranked third in the state. The Dreadnaughts will be shooting for another title as they claimed the crown in 2015 and finished state runner-up in 2016. Dexter will use its depth to earn a lot of points at the finals. The Dreads have qualifiers in every event and look for big points in the relays and multiple swimmers in each event to carry them. Senior All State Annette Schultz looks to defend her two state titles in the 100 and 200 free events. Schultz signed a letter of intent to swim at Louisville. Grace Kacmarek, Charlotte Schultz, Sarah Zofchak, and Amelia Kinnard will also look to rack up points for the Dreadnaughts.
Chelsea will take part in the D3 State Finals at Eastern Michigan University. The Bulldogs enter the meet ranked eighth in Division 3, but had a great showing at the D3 showcase during the season and look to compete for a top spot. Alexis Nelson qualified in the 50 free and 100 back and with two relay teams. Melina Almhiemid and Angelia Daman will be a Bulldog strength in the diving. Jordan Fannin, Aleksa Skiotys, Olivia Olk, and Olivia Prodin look for big points for Chelsea.Fannin signed a letter of intent to swim at Western Illinois University last week.
