City of Dexter: Notice of Public Hearing Regarding Amendment to General Code 12/8/25

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

CITY OF DEXTER

AMMENDMENT TO THE GENERAL CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 2, ARTICLES 1-3

Notice is hereby given that the Dexter City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, December 8, 2025.  The hearing will take place at 3515 Broad St., Dexter, Michigan. The purpose of hearing is to hear public comments regarding proposed changes to the General Code of Ordinance, Chapter 2 – Administration, Articles 1-3.

The changes to Chapter 2, Administration, include:

• Modified City Council payroll procedure to allow Council to set its pay schedule (no change to pay amounts)

• Added proper references to the City Charter for items such as elections

• Updated references to Michigan Case Law (MCL)

• Removal of unnecessary time references that have expired

• Clarified requirements for election to specific offices, and removed election requirements for positions that are no longer elected (City Clerk) per City Charter

• Removed “elected” descriptor for the City Clerk (is no longer elected) for consistency with the Charter

• Updated appointment procedure for the City Treasurer for consistency with the Charter

• Updated duties of the City Treasurer for consistency with the Charter

The draft changes are available for public inspection at the City Offices, 3515 Broad St, Dexter, MI 48130; weekdays between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  They are also available online at dextermi.gov. Any questions regarding the ordinance updates should be directed to the City Manager’s Office at 734-580-2229.

Interested parties are welcome to attend the public hearing and present their comments. Written comments regarding the draft changes should be submitted to the City Manager’s Office at the address listed above or via email to [email protected], and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Sign language interpreter, or other assistance, may be provided upon request to the City Manager and City Clerk at [email protected], at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting.  Minutes of all meetings are available on the City website, www.dextermi.gov.
