New life has been breathed into a residential project proposed to be built in Dexter Township.

Called Hanover Glen, the project has been in the works for many years, according to Dexter Township officials, and has been the subject of many meetings and hearings; and has received approvals and the required recommendations for approvals.

On July 16, the plan entered a new and more promising chapter.

Dexter Township Supervisor Harley Rider said the township board voted unanimously to approve the private roads and the development agreement for Hanover Glen with local developer, the Marhofer/Campbell Development Company.

“This project has been on the books since 2005, but was put on hold with the economic downturn a decade ago,” Rider said. “The developer has resurrected the plans, which had received final site plan approval many years ago.”

Rider said Hanover Glen is a 36-unit development of stand-alone single-family homes that will be going in on a 78 acre parcel off the north side of Island Lake Road, west of Dexter Townhall Road. Although classified as a site condominium, he said for all practical purposes it is a subdivision, not attached condos that most think about.

“Island Hills Estates, Copper Meadows, Hartman Farms, Inverness Woods, etc., are all site condo developments, but to the casual viewer, they are subdivisions,” Rider said.

Dexter Township anticipates the developer will break ground next spring.
