This November brings a variety of entertaining and educational programs for teens and kids of all ages to the Library. Everyone is welcome to attend these free events.
Drop-In Family Story Time continues on Thursdays, November 2 and November 9 at 10:30am. Family Story Times are geared for ages six and under but everyone is welcome to attend. Story Times for children include picture, pop-up and interactive books, flannel-board stories, songs, puppets, finger plays, crafts and other activities that encourage a love of reading.
On Saturday, November 4, the Friends of the Dexter District Library Used Book Sale will take place on the lower level of the Library. A wide assortment of hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase from 9am to 3pm.
Also on Saturday, November 4, join us for an hour of Fall Fairy Doors. Teens and kids of all ages are invited to make their own fairy door to take home, using a variety of craft materials. Registration is required, call 734-426-4477 to register.
Tuesday, November 7, first Tuesday Lego Club meets in the afternoon from 4 to 5pm. Kids in grades K through 8 are invited to spend an afternoon making their own Lego creations while visiting with old friends and making new ones. Legos and Lego instruction books are provided by the Library.
Dexter Community Schools have an early release day on Thursday, November 9 and kids in grades 3 through 8 are invited to a Wimpy Kid Party. Join us for games, snacks and chances to win a copy of the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book, The Getaway by Jeff Kinney. Call 734-426-4477 to register.
Saturday, November 11 at 11am brings Wild Swan Theater to the Library to perform Strega Nona and the Magic Pasta Pot. Strega Nona has a magical pasta pot which only she can control. Come see what silliness ensues when Big Anthony does not listen to her, causing the streets of their small Italian village to fill with pasta. Enjoy live theater with audience participation for all ages. Registration is not required.
Our Teen Advisory Group (TAG) also meets Saturday, November 11 from 12 to 1pm. Teens in grades 7 through 12 meet monthly to brainstorm new programs, book selections and how to make the library a great place. TAG members help out at many children’s programs throughout the year. This is a fun way to earn volunteer hours. Pizza will be served, registration is required.
Saturday, November 18 at 11am everyone is invited to stop by for the annual Thanksgiving Story Time and Craft. Join us for 30 minutes of stories and music celebrating Thanksgiving, food and families. This program is geared for ages six and under but everyone is welcome. A variety of Thanksgiving crafts will be provided following the program, registration is not required.
Take a break from Thanksgiving preparations and visit the library on Wednesday, November 22 at 2pm for a free bag of popcorn and a popular, newly released family movie on the big screen. Dexter Community Schools have an early release day, call 734-426-4477 for more information about the movie.
Will you be looking for great deals this holiday season? Do you want to support your local community? If so, the Library will host the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce to kick off Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 25 from 9 to 10am. This event showcases local merchants and their incentives to shop small and shop local after the Black Friday rush to malls and big box stores. The Library is pleased to participate in this year’s event. Start your Small Business Saturday shopping with coffee and donuts, some free Small Business Saturday swag and a short movie for the kids at the library. Everyone is welcome, registration is not required.
November wraps up with another Makerspace event on Monday, November 27 from 4 to 5pm. Kids in grades K through 8 are invited to drop in and get creative. Several building and creativity stations will be set up for kids to enjoy using a variety of building projects and crafts. Work alone or as a team, registration is not required.
