Chelsea, Michigan

Passed away Sunday morning, January 28, 2018 at the age of 96. She was born October 4, 1921 in Copemish, Michigan, the fifth of eight children born to Peter and Anna (Lisac) Romsek.

Ag’s life journey took her from the family farm in northern Michigan, to College in Minnesota, to a career as a Medical Technologist at UM Hospital in Ann Arbor, to her true life’s work raising a family of five children in Chelsea.

She was married to Howard R. Haselschwardt for 64 years, until his death in 2015. Together they modeled for their family the importance of faith, hard work, family and education.

Ag was a woman who felt free to follow her own mind and heart, and she taught her children to be kind and compassionate and to think for themselves. Her artistic flair was evident through the beautiful flower gardens she created, her gift for sewing, knitting and baking, and her flair for fashion.

She loved to exercise, play golf, and watch her kids and grandkids’ ballgames. But Ag’s biggest joy was celebrating every occasion possible with her husband Howdy, her siblings, her children and their families.

Her deep Catholic faith helped Ag through many challenges, including the deaths of her parents, seven siblings, her husband Howard (2015), daughter Jane Bailey (2009) and son Howard Scott Haselschwardt (2014).

She is survived by her daughters Jeanne (Darryl) Christensen of Dexter, Liz Haselschwardt (Tim Reed) of Strongsville, Ohio, and Sarah Haselschwardt (Fred Vasquez) of Chelsea; grandchildren Molly (Kevin) Boyle of Fallston, MD, Joe Welton of Saline, John Bailey of Petoskey, Sally Haselschwardt of Boulder, CO, Scott (Sarah) Haselschwardt of Santa Barbara, CA, Ben and Max Reed of Kalamazoo, and Alex and Maddie Vasquez of Chelsea; and great grandchildren Hazel Boyle and Ellen Boyle of Fallston, Maryland.

Visitation for Agnes will be Friday, February 2, 2018 from 1:30-3:30pm at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 11am from St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The family will also receive friends beginning at 10am on Saturday prior to the funeral mass.
