Anna V. Hoover

Chelsea, Michigan

Passed away at age 95, October 1, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Chelsea. She was born October 11, 1922 in Pinckney, MI the daughter of Bruce and Caroline (Wallace) VanBlaircum.

April 8, 1943 she married Warren M. Hoover in Pinckney, MI and he preceded her in death in 1990.

She is survived by four children: Jacqueline (Roy) Wentz of Chelsea, Bruce Hoover of Oregon, Daniel (Janet) Hoover of Chelsea, and Elizabeth Kalmbach of Chelsea; ten grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews; also a sister Betty Crockett of Gregory, a brother Bruce (Florence) VanBlaircum of Pinckney, sister-in-law Goldie Hoover of Grass Lake, and special friend Joan Maier of Chelsea.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son Samuel Hoover in 2013, son-in-law William Kalmbach in 2007, and five brothers and one sister.

Anna had lived in the area since the 1940s. She worked at the Methodist Home starting when she was 18 years old. She also worked at Dancers and owned and operated, with her husband, the Jerusalem Grocery Store in the 1950s and 1960s. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 40 years. She was also a volunteer at Chelsea Community Hospital for 20 years.

Her talents were many as she enjoyed wallpapering and painting, and was an avid baker making hundreds of cakes for weddings and special occasions. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling, and traveling with the Chelsea Senior Citizens.

Funeral services will take place Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11am from Zion Lutheran Church, Chelsea with Pastor Kathy Tulman officiating. The family will receive friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8pm, as well as at the church on Friday from 10-11am.
