Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Bulldogs Past Ypsilanti





It took three quarters, but the Chelsea girls’ basketball team finally put it all together and pulled away from Ypsilanti for a 44-24 win in a battle between two of the top teams in the SEC White.

The Bulldogs entered the game with 3-0 conference record and the Grizzlies 2-1 in the White and 6-1 overall.

Chelsea took a 6-0 lead in the first and would never give up that lead, but the game wasn’t decided until the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs outscored Ypsi 19-3 to pull way for the 20 points win.

The Bulldogs led 11-5 after one quarter and remained at six points 19-13 at the break.



Ypsilant cut the lead to four 25-21 after three quarters, but the Bulldogs owned the fourth.

Maddie Vasquez scored two quick baskets and a Briana Hay steal of an inbounds pass and a lay-in quickly made it a 10 point game at 31-21.

AJ Fullerton converted and And -One and split a pair of free throws and Madeleine Kennedy hit a baseline drive to the hoop to make the run 12-0 and a 37-21 lead before the Grizzlies would finally find the basket with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Fullerton finished with a with a team-high 14 points, while Vasquez was a force in the paint and finished with 13.

Jenna Fosdick, Hay, and Kennedy scored four points each, Kiersten Anstead three, and Emily McCalla two for Chelsea.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in the White and 7-0 overall. Thye return to action Tuesday when they travel to Ypsilanti Lincoln and host rival Dexter Friday at 5:30 PM.
