Bulldog Softball Claims Second Straight SEC White Title

A doubleheader sweep of second place Ypsilanti Lincoln clinched the second straight SEC White title for the Chelsea softball team Tuesday.

The Bulldogs pulled away from the Splitters late in the opener to take the contest 6-1.

Grace Bush smacked a two-run homer to right field to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the second.



Maddy Kemp was dominant on the mound until the fifth when the Splitters led off the inning with a double and a bunt single to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Following a pop-up, the Splitters pushed one across on a bunt and put a runner on third with two outs, but Kemp got the final batter with a strikeout to end the threat with the Bulldogs leading 2-1.

Lincoln put a runner on first with one out in the sixth, but Sydnee Liedel made a fine running catch in right-center then fired to Bush at first base to double off the runner to the inning.

Alise Hale led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to make it 3-1 and the Bulldogs would tack on three more in the sixth for a 6-1 lead which they would hold on to for the win. Kemp struck out ten on the mound.

Caroline Hirth led the offense with three hits and an RBI, while Maddie Vasquez had two hits and a run scored. Bush and Hale each had a home run.

The second game saw Hale rip an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 walk-off win for the Bulldogs.

Chelsea took a 5-2 lead with four runs in the third and led 8-4 heading into the seventh.

Lincoln rallied for four runs in the seventh to tie the game at eight and set up the exciting finish.

Kemp led off the seventh with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Phoebe Kahler. With two outs Hale ripped a single to center scoring Kemp with the winning league title-winning run.

Vasquez had a big game with four hits and two RBI, while Hale finished with three hits and two RBI. Peighton Root had two hits and two RBI, Liedel two hits and three runs scored and Hirth a hit and RBI.

The Bulldogs then defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 7-1 in an SEC crossover Thursday.

Bush had a big game with another home run and finished with three hits and two RBI. Root had two hits and an RBI, Hale another home run, Hirth and Liedel a hit and RBI each.

The Bulldogs wrapped up league play by rolling to a doubleheader sweep of Pinckney Thursday 11-0 and 15-0.

Kemp struck out nine and allowed just three hits in the opener.

Chelsea blew the game open with seven runs in the seventh.

Root had a big game with three hits and four RBI. Hannah Kahler had three hits and scored two and Hale three hits and one RBI. Hines and Kemp each had two hits and two RBI. One of Kemps hits was a home run.

Hayley Townsend allowed just two hits and struck out three for the win in the second game.

Root smashed a three-run homer and finished with four hits and six RBI. Liedel added a home run and three hits and two RBI, Hines a home run, two hits and two RBI, and Stephanie Dark a hit and three RBI.

Chelsea improved to 32-5-1 on the season.
