Make it seven straight trips to the Division 3 state finals for the Chelsea boys’ tennis team

the Bulldogs tied for the Regional title with Parma Western Thursday, October 10.

The Bulldogs took home three Regional titles and four runner-ups to earn the tie with the Panthers.


Dom Guthre and Cal Stacy repeated as Regional champions by winning the three-doubles title. They swept through Milan and B.C. Harper Creek 6-0, 6-0 before beating Parma Western 6-3, 6-3 in the championship.

Lucas Hopkins also repeated as Regional champion, claiming the four-singles crown. He dominated the day, losing just three games. He defeated Tecumseh 6-1, 6-1; B.C. Harper Creek 6-1, 6-0; and rolled past Marshall in the finals 6-0, 6-0.

Kyle Mitchell and Joshua O’Brien teamed to win the four-doubles title. They blanked Tecumseh 6-0, 6-0; downed Jackson Northwest 6-0, 6-2; and defeated Wester nin the finals 6-1, 6-2.

Reaching the finals in their flights for the Bulldogs were Hunter Napieralski at one-singles, Lucas Glendening two-singles, AJ Mitchell/Carter DeRosia one-doubles, and Landon Napieralski/Lane Ford two-doubles.

“It was a big day for the program,” Coach Rahn Rosentreter said. “All season long the guys have been asked to battle teams comprised of upperclassmen (both in league and out) and the regional was no different.  A lot of credit goes to our three seniors for keeping everyone confident and focused throughout the tournament.”

The state finals will take place at Kalamazoo College on October 18-19.
