A dominating performance might be an understatement for the Chelsea Bulldogs win over Adrian Friday night.
The Bulldogs controlled every facet of the game as they rolled to a 55-0 Senior Night win and clinched at least a share of the SEC White title.
A win over Tecumseh next week will clinch the outright title for the Bulldogs.
As it has for most of the season, Chelsea defense got them, going with an interception by Tyler Valik. The pick set up a TD run by Brennan Van Riper from nine-yards out for a 6-0 lead.
Van Riper made it 13-0 when he sprinted in from 21 yards out midway through the first quarter and Griffen Murphy ran one in from 11 yards to make it 20-0 Chelsea after one quarter.
The second quarter was more the same as the Bulldogs continued to pour it on.
Kyle Knight connected with Ross Stofflet for a 21-yard score to make it 27-0 and Murphy scored his second of the night, this time from seven yards out for a 34-0 halftime lead.
Murphy sprinted in from 64 yards out for his third score of the night in the third to make it 41-0.
Cole Munson scored from four yards out to increase the lead to 48-0 after three quarters and Hunter Berrien blocked a punt in the final quarter and scooped it up for a score to make the final 55-0.
The Bulldogs defense held Adrian to just 63 total yards for the game, with an interception and a blocked punt for a score.
The defense was dominant even with a lot of the younger players getting into the game with 23 players getting in on at least one tackle. Gabe Vowles, Berrien, Dylan Dollinger, and Tyler Wahlgren were in on four tackles each.
Murphy led the offense with 97 yards rushing on nine carries and three TD’s, while Van Riper had 71 yards rushing on five carries and two scores. Mitchell Reynolds had four carries for 25 yards and Munson four carries for 21 yards and a score.
Knight finished 3 of 4 passing for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Murphy was 2-4 for four yards. Stofflet caught one pass for 26 yards and a score, Reynold one for 10, Bradley Fischer, Zach Wotta, and Knight each one for 4 yards
Chelsea improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the White.
