Goals ten seconds apart early in the first period gave the Chelsea hockey team the quick start it needed as the Bulldogs rolled to a 7-3 win over Portage Central to claim the Chelsea Thanksgiving tournament title Saturday night.
Tyler Valik put Chelsea up with a goal with 15:38 left in the first period and just 10 seconds later Corbin Steele scored on the power play for a 2-0 lead.
Portage would find the net at the 10:51 mark to make it 2-1, but goals by Wes Hanson and a second by Steele made it 4-1 after one period.
Gabe Vowles and the second goal of the night by Valik made it 6-1 in the second period before Portage would try to rally.
Portage scored with five minutes left in the second to make it 6-2 and found the net late in the third to cut the lead to 6-3, but Steele slammed the door with his third goal of the night to make the final 7-3.
Harrison Lantis stopped 16 of 19 shots in net for Chelsea.
Steele finished with three goals and two assists to led the Bulldogs. Valik finished with two goals and an assist, while Vowles had a goal and two assists. Jack Capper added three assists and Devin MacIntyre one.
