Chelsea Alumni Association Keeps Bulldog Spirit Alive

By Natalie Davies

The Chelsea Alumni Association connects Chelsea graduates through hosting social events and working on projects related to the schools and community.

CAA is a subcommittee of the Chelsea Education Foundation. CAA Steering Committee member Julia Applegate chairs the Wall Team, which is working on putting together a history wall inside Chelsea High School.

Applegate felt excited CHS allotted CAA a wall to decorate, and CAA is going to design a wall and create a digital display showing Chelsea School District’s history.

“A lot of the walls in the school are specific to one thing, you know, athletics or music. This wall is celebrating Chelsea School District’s current students as well as all the past alumni and graduates,” Applegate said. “We’re working on that right now, getting all the class composites from all years of all of Chelsea school all the way back to the 1800s. We’re gonna have this digital display on the wall there.”

Other CAA projects include social hours, tabling at events like Homecoming and graduation, selling gear, organizing class reunions and helping fundraise for CEF scholarships for graduates and grants for teachers.

CAA hosted a Euchre night at Ugly Dog Distillery on May 17 and has a Summer Festival Meet and Greet planned for July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Ugly Dog Distillery. The newsletter says a cornhole tournament is in the works.

Applegate enjoys the group as a way to get involved in the community and meet new people.

“Before I joined the committee, I didn’t know any of the people on it, so it’s nice I got to know them all over time,” Applegate said. “We all have that one thing in common: we went to Chelsea schools and we are all Bulldog fans and supporters… It’s a neat community tie in with people of all ages who graduated from the district.”

Chelsea Alumni from any graduating class and current teachers and administrators are welcome to join the hundreds of alumni in the network. Donations are encouraged, but it is free to join. Community members can visit www.chelseaalumniassociation.org to join or learn more about CAA and its initiatives.

“What you’re signing up to join is just to say, ‘Hey, I graduated from Chelsea High School, and I am supporting other graduates in their endeavors,’” Applegate said.
