Chelsea Baseball Falls in District Finals

The Chelsea baseball team came up short in its bid for a D2 district title after falling to Pinckney 4-0 in the championship game Saturday.

The Bulldogs reached the finals after Ypsilanti withdrew from the tournament giving the Bulldogs a bye in the semifinals.

Chelsea could never get the bats going against Pinckney pitching. The Bulldogs collected just four hits on the day against Pinckney.

Pinckney started quickly with three straight singles to plate a run and followed with a squeeze bunt to make it 2-0. Another single scored a run to give Pinckney a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

Chelsea put two runners on in the bottom of the first, but the final out was made when the Bulldogs tried to score on a steal of home.

The Pirates added another run in the second for a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs would only get two runners on base one more time when they got a single by Preston Paoletti and a walk to Mason Meads to start the fourth, but three straight out left the runners stranded.

Max Herter led the Bulldogs with a pair of hits, while Paoletti and Logan Hoyt-Tracy had one hit each.

Chelsea finished 18-14-1 overall on the season.
