A stunning five run rally in the bottom of the seventh lifted Adrian to a shocking 7-6 win over Chelsea ending the Bulldogs season in the pre-district round of the state tournament Tuesday.
The Bulldogs held a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but a pair of walks started the Maple rally.
A line out to left gave the Bulldogs one out, but a single loaded the bases. A walk forced in a run and a single scored two more to make it 6-5. The Maples reloaded the bases with another single and tied the game with an infield single and the bases were still loaded. A single to left scored the game-winning run and sent the stunned Bulldogs home.
The Bulldogs looked to take control early on a Maple error and a run scoring double by Hunter Neff for a 2-0 lead in the first.
Neff drove in another run in the third with a single and scored on a two-run homer by Carson Robinson to make it 6-0.
The Maples made a game of it in the fifth with a two-run home to cut the lead to 6-2, setting up the shocking seventh inning rally.
Neff led the offense with a pair of hits and two RBI, while Robinson had the home run and two RBI. Owen Brown and Joe Taylor had the only other hits for the Bulldogs as they were held to just five hits for the game.
Robinson struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings of work on the mound for the Bulldogs.
Chelsea finishes its season with a 27-6 overall record.
