The Chelsea girls’ cross-country team came home with a third-place finish at the Corunna Early Bird Invite last week.
Flint Powers won the race with 52, followed by Goodrich with 70, and Chelsea 74.
Riley Thorburn finished ninth to lead Chelsea in 21:35, followed by Allison House 11th in 21:53. Natalie Davies was 13th in 21:58, Emily Chizek 15th in 22:26, Thea Higgins 27th in 23:45, Myranda Montoye 28th in 23:48, and Mallory Bee 31st in 23:59.
“This was a good start for us,” Coach Pat Clarke said. “We had a number of girls who needed a meet to find out some things about racing on the varsity. I think they learned a lot about what it takes to run on the varsity. We have a lot of work to do if we want to be a competitive team.”
The boys ran at Saline’s End of Summer Classic and swept the top four spots in the race that no team scores were kept.
Jensen Holm finished first in 15:54, leading start to finish. Carson Rabbitt finished second with a time of 16:23, Foster Thorburn third (16:29) and Will Scott fourth (16:38). Joseph Norwood was eighth in 17:13, Zander Hartsuff 12th in 17:22, and Owen Smith 25th in 18:00.
