The Chelsea girl’ tennis team held tough but dropped a hard-fought 5-3 decision to D3 state power Flint Powers last week.
The Bulldogs won three of four doubles matches, with the fourth being a three-set match.
Picking up wins were Maddie Pedlow and Julia Schachinger at two singles 7-5, 0-6, 6-4, Madisen Chinavare and Madelynn O’Hara 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at three doubles, and Corrine Dale and Gretchen Kuras 6-1, 7-5 to remain undefeated at four doubles.
Kendall Tucker and Morgan Moore dropped a tough 2-6, 6-2, 3-6 match at one doubles.
Emma Catalina played a great match at three singles, forcing her opponent into a second set tiebreak but came up short.
“Emma played a very strategic match, she’s one of our smartest players out there,” Coach Matt Pedlow said. “Emma figures out weaknesses in her opponents and uses that to her advantage. I really felt if she forced the third set she would pull out the win.”
“I was thrilled with the level of play from our team,” Pedlow added. “Flint Powers is a dominant team in Division 3 and we also face them in our regional tournament. They are well coached, disciplined players, so it was good to see us pick up a few flights from them.”
