Chelsea Girls’ Tennis Wins Almont Invitational

The Chelsea girls’ tennis team has kicked off 2019 in a big way with a tournament title at Almont to go along with three dual meet wins in the first two weeks of the season.

The Bulldogs went 3-0 at the Almont Invite Saturday, April 13. They defeated Almont 7-1, Marysville 8-0, and Flint Powers 6-2.

In singles, Amanda Dosey (2) and Sierra Martinez-Kratz (4) each went 3-0 on the day, while Kelsie Weinrich (1) and Rachel Bareis (3) went 2-1.

The doubles teams of Julia Schachinger/Madelynn O’Hara (2), Gretchen Kuras/Madisen Chinavere (3), and Corrine Dale/Remy Sturt (4) went 3-0, while Maddie Pedlow/Kyra Van Batavia (1) went 2-1.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a 6-2 win over Mason. They split the singles matches with Bareis and Martinez-Kratz picking up wins, while the doubles teams swept their matches.

Chelsea opened SEC White play with an 8-0 win over Adrian. Dosey, Bareis, and Martinez-Kratz all swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0, while the doubles teams combined to lose just one point in the four matches.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in the SEC with an 8-0 win over Ypsilanti Tuesday, April 16.

Bareis (1), Amelia Loveland (2), Kendall Spink (3), and Stella Moore dominated their singles matches. The match of the day came at four-singles where Moore rallied from a set down to win a three set match 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Pedlow/Van Batavia (1), Bareis/Kate Leissner (2), Payton Doan/Tori Walz (3), and Olivia Prodin/Kayla Sweeney (4) combined to lose just two games in the doubles matches.

The Bulldogs return to action Thursday when they take on Monroe and then at the Allegan tournament Saturday.
