Chelsea Girls’ Tennis Wins Regional Title

The Chelsea girls’ tennis team claimed the first outright Regional title in school history last week when the Bulldogs won the Division 3 Regional at Haslett. The Bulldog had shared the title with Trenton in 2014.

Chelsea finished with 26 points, clipping Flint Powers with 24, and Haslett with 19.

They will now move on the MI State Finals on June 1st which will mark the 7th straight year that the Chelsea Girls Tennis team has made the state finals.



“The girls played incredibly hard all day long, I am so proud of them as a team,” coach Matt Pedlow said. “Many of them won matches that they weren’t favored in, and we ended up getting 6 flights into the finals, winning four of those flights.”

Picking up flight championships were Emma Catalina at three singles, Carli Martin at four singles, Madilynn O’Hara and Maddisen Chinavere at three doubles, and Corrine Dale/ Gretchen Kuras at four doubles.

Catalina won her title match 7-5, 6-4 in a close match with Flint Powers. Martin dominated at four O’Hara/Chinavere won a close first set 7-5 and dominated the second 6-2, and Dale/Kuras rallied after dropping the first set 4-6, and winning the next two 6-3, 6-3

Kyra Van Batavia finished 2nd in two singles and had the match of the day winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 against the Haslett player that had beaten her a week earlier

Maddie Pedlow and Julia Schachinger also finished second at two doubles, falling I nthe final to a strong Powers team.

Kelsie Weinrich at one doubles and Kendall Tucker and Morgan Moore at one doubles, both reached the semifinals before their days ended.

They will now move on the MI State Finals on June 1st which will mark the 7th straight year that the Chelsea Girls Tennis team has made the state finals.
