The cold weather did not stop the Chelsea lacrosse team from opening its season last week.
Lacrosse teams are made up of a lot of ice hockey players so they, for the most part, are used to the cold so temperatures in the 30’s are nothing new to them.
Fans, on the other hand, are the ones that get to sit in the cold windy conditions to cheer on their favorite team and players.
The Bulldogs opened with an impressive 20-3 win over Pinckney Thursday, April 5.
The Pirates have a varsity lacrosse program for the first time in 2018. In previous seasons they had co-opped with Whitmore Lake.
Chelsea dominated the Pirates from the start.
Cam Breining led the Bulldogs with eight goals. Brad Fischer earned the win in net.
Max Gervais added four goals and three assists, Doug Zarinnia three goals and three assists, Spencer Gobba three goals and two assists, Aidan Boote and Tyler Wallgren one goal each, Riley Sumner two assists, Zach Cooley and Ethan Dunahoo one assist each.
The Bulldogs returned to the field Friday night and ran into a strong Howell squad, falling to the Highlanders 20-5.
Chelsea trailed 5-2 after one quarter, but Howell blew the game open with a 6-0 run in the second to make it 11-2 at the half.
Cooley and Sumner scored first period goals for the Bulldogs. Gobba added three goals in the second half to pick up the hat trick for Chelsea.
