A crash Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, in Dexter Township left an 18-year-old Chelsea man dead and another driver, an FBI agent, seriously injured.

According to Dexter Area Fire Chief Robert Smith, emergency responders were dispatched around 8 a.m. to a three-car crash on North Territorial Road, just west of Toma Road. Smith said it looked as if two of the cars hit head on while the third couldn’t stop and rear-ended one of the crashed cars.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

WCSO spokesman Derrick Jackson said the 18-year-old, a Tyler Macheske of Chelsea, was pronounced dead at the scene while the unidentified FBI agent suffered significant injuries and was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center. Smith said responders had to extricate the injured driver from the vehicle.

The third vehicle, which Smith said was occupied by a mother and two children, suffered no injuries and were released at the scene.

Jackson said the crash is under investigation, but the initial report states Macheske’s car, who was headed west, crossed the center line for unknown reasons at this point and struck the FBI agent’s car, traveling east, head on. The third vehicle rear-ended the agent’s car, Jackson said.

Further investigation will look into road measurements from the scene and toxicology results.
