Chelsea Police Report Increase in Calls, Traffic Enforcement in January 2026

The Chelsea Police Department responded to 409 calls for police service in January 2026, up from 334 last year.

 Highlighted Call Totals

  • Two assaults
  • Two larcenies
  • Five forgery/fraud
  • Two controlled substances
  • 24 Traffic crashes
  • 245 non-criminal calls

Case Status

Of the departments 48 cases, 22 remain open, two await lab analysis, 17 given to the prosecutor, and seven were closed.

Traffic Citations

Officers issued 38 citations during January. The most common violations included:

  • Ten impeding traffic
  • Eight expired registration and plate violations
  • Five speeding 1–5 mph over the limit
  • Four no proof of registration

Other violations included failure to yield, driving without due care, stop sign violations, and driving while license suspended or expired.

Traffic stop records show enforcement activity most frequently occurring throughout the month at Main Street, Freer Road and Old U.S. 12.
