The Chelsea School District will soon be looking to fill a new position that will act as the face of the district’s safety and security.
CSD Superintendent Michael Kapolka introduced the proposal for the role of Director of Safety and Security at the May 20 school board meeting. Kapolka said this new position comes out of the district’s strategic planning priorities for health and safety and its desire to enhance the safety and security initiatives. The position will be posted this week.
Kapolka said it will be a grant-funded position starting the 2024-25 school year. CSD will be piloting the role for the next two years and at that end of that time it will assess the role to determine whether or not they should keep it or alter it, or what.
The ideal candidate will be expected to have experience and background in law enforcement or a relate field. Once in the position, the director will develop, implement and manage the district’s safety, security and emergency protocols, and staff training. The director will also oversee the district’s operating plan.
Kapolka said this position will be forward-facing one as he or she will be doing such things as interacting with students and the community as part of the role’s duties in demonstrating the district’s commitment to safety and security.
The school district will post the potion and it’s expected that candidate interviews and a hiring will occur in the coming months.
