Chelsea Softball Pulls Away from Pioneer





It took a while, but the Chelsea softball team pulled away late a they Bulldogs took down a pesky Ann Arbor Pioneer squad 7-1 Wednesday, May 8.

Maddie Vasquez drove home Sydnee Liedel with a single in the first inning to give the Bulldogs an early lead.

Chelsea added a run in the fourth to make it 2-0, but Pioneer would keep the game close.

Vasquez drove in a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 4-0 and Pioneer would get one back in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach in the seventh with three runs on an RBI groundout by Kiersten Anstead, a run-scoring single by Hayley Townsend and a run on an error by Pioneer to make it 7-1.

Maddie Kemp earned the win in the circle striking out seven and allowing just three hits.

Vasquez led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while Liedel had two hits and an RBI. Stephanie Dark added two hits, and Anstead and Townsend a hit and RBI each.

The Bulldogs improved to 17-4 overall on the season.
