Chelsea Softball Rolls to Pair of Sweeps

The Chelsea softball team got off to a fast start to 2018 with a pair of doubleheader sweeps last week.

The Bulldogs opened with a strong sweep of Bedford Wednesday, defeating the Mules 3-1 and 8-3.

Chelsea scored single runs in the 2nd-4th innings to build a 3-0 lead and that would be all they needed behind the pitching of Maddie Kemp.

Kemp allowed just three hits and struck out 12 on the mound for the win.

Sydney Liedel drove home Grace bush with a single in the second to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

An RBI ground out by Maddie Vasquez in the second and an RBI single by Alise Hale in the third made it 3-0 and Kemp did the rest.

Liedel finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Hale and Vasquez each had a hit and RBI, and Bush a hit.

The Bulldogs took a 4-2 lead over the Mules in the second of the nightcap and extended the lead to 7-2 with three runs in the fourth as they cruised to the 8-3 win.

The big blows of the game were three-run homer by Hale in the second and a two-run shot by Liedel in the fourth.

Hale finished with three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Liedel added two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Sydney Hines had two hits and an RBI, while Vasquez had two hits. Bush, Phoebe Kahler, and Stephanie Dark each had one hit.

Hayley Townsend struck out four on the mound for the win.

The Bulldogs rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Adrian Thursday, taking both games easily 17-2 and 18-3.

A big 12 run 3rd inning blew the first game wide open as Chelsea cruised to the win.

Hale smacked her second homerun of the season and finished with three hits, four RBI, and two runs scored. Peighton Root finished with three hits and two RBI, while Bush had two hits and four RBI. Kemp added two hits and an RBI, Kahler a hit and two RBI, and Liedel a hit and two runs scored.

Kemp struck out three for the win on the mound.

The Bulldogs scored six in the first and five each in the second and third as they rolled to the 18-3 win in the second game.

Vasquez had a monster game with a home run, three hits, and five RBI. Townsend had a home run and three RBI and was the winning pitcher. Hale finished with three hits and three runs scored, Emily Savory two hits and an RBI, Dark two hits and two RBI, Hines a hit and two RBI, Kemp a hit and RBI, and Caroline Hirth a hit and two runs scored.

Chelsea is 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the SEC White.
