Another exceptional Chelsea softball season came to an end Saturday when the Bulldogs fell to Milan 11-3 in the D2 Regional Finals in Fowlerville.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 26-11 overall record with another SEC White title and Chelsea fifth straight district title.
Two big innings doomed the Bulldogs in the regional final loss to Milan.
Chelsea struck first with a Jenna Ouellette single that was followed by an Avery Lay triple to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the first. Kaydee Absher drove in Lay with a sacrifice fly and Tori Parisho drove in a run with a single after Ella Root reached on an error for a 3-0 Bulldogs lead after one.
Both teams went out in order in the second and Milan broke through in the third with a pair of home runs to take a 6-3 lead.
Chelsea threatened with two runners on and one out in the fourth, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat and the score remained 6-3 Milan.
Milan blew the game open in the top of the sixth with five unearned runs after two were out in the inning to take an 11-3 lead and Chelsea could not overcome the deficit.
Lay and Parisho led the offense with two hits and one RBI each.
Absher had a hit and RBI, Ouellette and Root a hit and run scored each, Charlotte Diesing and Sam Dark one hit each.
Parisho took the hard luck loss on the mound with just two of the 11 runs being earned. She struck out seven.
Chelsea reached the finals by blanking DeWitt 10-0 in six innings in the semifinals.
A big eight run second inning, sparked by two-run homers by Parisho and Lay gave the Bulldogs the early lead that they never relinquished.
Kylie Beckel added a home run in the fifth and Lay ended it with an RBI-double in the sixth.
Ouellette finished with three hits and two RBI, while Lay had the home run, double and three RBI for the Bulldogs.
Beckel and Parisho each finished with two hits, a home run and two RBI, while Root had a hit and RBI.
Parisho stuck out 13 and allowed just two hits in the circle for the win.
