An early season SEC White softball showdown went in favor of Chelsea Tuesday as the Bulldogs swept rival Dexter 12-1 and 5-1 in a doubleheader that was rescheduled from Monday.

The Bulldogs entered the doubleheader with a 5-0 record, while Dexter was 2-0, but it was the Bulldogs that came away with the sweep.

Three straight walks to open the second inning helped Chelsea take a 4-0 lead in the opener. Hayley Townsend and Maddie Vasquez had RBI singles in the inning.

Dexter got one back in the third when Jenna Wagenschutz drove in a run with a single to make it 4-1.

The Bulldogs put the game away with an eight-run outburst in the fourth. Vasquez and Stephanie Dark had two-run doubles in the inning as the Bulldogs pulled away for the win.

Vasquez led the offense with two hits and three RBI, while Townsend and Maddy Scheese each had two hits and an RBI. Dark finished with a hit and two RBI. Maddie Kemp struck out seven for the win for Chelsea.

Kylee Niswonger led Dexter with two hits and a run scored. While Wagenschutz had a hit and RBI.

The second game saw Chelsea score three times after two were out in the third to take a 3-0 lead. An RBI double by Townsend, RBI single by Vasquez and RBI triple by Peighton Root plated three for the Bulldogs.

Dexter threatened by loading the bases in the fourth, but a groundout to second ended the threat.

The Bulldogs added a run in the fourth with a pair of walks and a passed ball to make it 4-0.

The Dreadnaughts got a run back in the fifth to make it 4-1, but an RBI single by Dark made it 5-1 and put the game away in the fifth.

Townsend went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Chelsea. Kemp struck out five to pick up the win.

Niswonger and Livvy Mellifont had two hits each for Dexter.

Chelsea improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the SEC White. Dexter fell to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the White
