Chelsea Softball Sweeps Pair Against Manchester

The Chelsea softball team improved to 6-0 on the season after its high-powered offense put on a display and rolled to a pair of wins over Manchester Friday, April 20.

The Bulldogs took the opener 14-2. Manchester took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Taryn Fether tripled to right and Hayley Blumenauer singled her home with two outs.

Blumenauer held Chelsea in check until the third when the Bulldogs exploded for 12 runs, 11 of which were after two outs.



The big blows of the inning were provided by Maddie Vasquez as she hit not one, but two 2-run homers in the third inning.

The Dutchmen got one back in the fourth when Gillian Bross doubled and scored on a McKenna Good groundout to make it 12-2.

Chelsea finished off the scoring with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth for the 14-2 win.

Vasquez led the offense with three hits (two homers) and four RBI. Alise Hale, Caroline Hirth, and Sydney Liedel each had two hits and two RBI. Grace Bush and Hannah Kahler each had a hit and RBI, Maddy Kemp a hit and two runs scored. Kemp earned the win on the mound with nine strikeouts and five hits allowed.

Blumenauer and Good each had a hit and RBI for Manchester. Jayden Humphrey and Bross each had a hit and run scored, while Fether had a triple.

The nightcap saw the Bulldogs score ten runs in the first inning and cruised to the win 15-1.

Peighton Root had a big game with four hits, four RBI, and four runs scored. Phoebe Kahler had three hits and an RBI, Hannah Kahler two hits and two RBI, Hale and Hayley Townsend two hits and one RBI, Stephanie Dark a hit and two RBI, Sydney Hines, Bush, and Hirth a hit and RBI each.

Townsend earned the win on the mound, striking out six and allowing two hits.

Humphrey had a hit and RBI to lead the Dutch, while Elizabeth O’Hotzke had the other hit for Manchester.

The Bulldogs improved to 9-0 on the season after going 3-0 at a home quad Saturday. Chelsea rallied for two runs in the sixth to beat Farmington 4-3 in the opener.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Hines led off with a single. She stole second and with two outs scored on a Farmington error to tie the game. She then scored the go-ahead run on another error.

Kemp set the side down in order in the seventh for the win.

Root led the offense with two hits and a run scored, while Hines and Bush each had a hit and RBI.

Kemp struck out 13 for the win on the mound.

The Bulldogs started slowly in the second game falling behind 6-0 to Livonia Churchill, but rallied to win 14-8.

Chelsea scored three in the second, five in the third, and four in the fourth to retake the lead for good.

Vasquez led the offense with three hits and an RBI, while Root had two hits and three RBI. Bush and Hirth each had a pair of hits and two RBI and Dark, one hit and four RBI.

Kemp earned the win in relief, striking out three.

The Bulldogs ended the day with a 12-2 mercy of Holt.

Liedel led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while Hines had two hits and three RBI. Root collected two hits and two RBI and Dark two hits and a run scored.

Kemp picked up her third win of the day with three strikeouts.
