The Chelsea boys’ tennis team qualified for the Division 3 state final for the sixth straight year after a second-place finish at the Regional the Bulldogs hosted Thursday, October 11.
It was a close battle with Chelsea, Parma Western, and Mason for the top three spots.
Parma Western, powered by five flight champions and two runners-up, won the Regional with 26 points, while the Bulldogs claimed three flight champions and one runner-up and finished with 23 points. Mason had three runners-up and finished with 19 points.
Lucas Hopkins won the championship at four singles with a 6-3, 7-5 win in the finals for the Bulldogs.
Tyler Emmert and Drew Vanderspool teamed to win at one doubles with a hard fought 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 win over Western.
At four doubles, Dominic Guthre and Cal Stacy teamed for a 6-3, 6-4 championship win over Western.
Evan Erber and Kyle Mitchell reached the finals at three doubles, but fell to Western 6-3, 6-0.
The Bulldogs will compete in the Division 3 Finals at Novi October 19/20.
