The Chelsea volleyball team played a strong match, but came up short against a good Saline squad, falling to the Hornets 21-25, 19-25, 15-25.
The Bulldogs led 8-7 early in the first, but the Hornets scored four straight to take an 11-8 lead. Chelsea held tough, but were forced to take a timeout trailing 23-20. Saline scored the next point to make 24-20 and a kill by the Bulldogs made it 24-21, but the next serve was long as the Hornets pulled out the set.
Chelsea came out hot early in the second by taking a 10-7 lead. Madeleine Kennedy sparked the Bulldogs with a couple of big kills in the run.
Saline went on a run of their own to cut the Bulldogs lead to 15-14 and forcing a timeout. The Hornets would score eight of the next 12 points to take a 22-19 lead and closed out the set with three straight points after a timeout.
The third set saw the teams tied at 8-8, but Saline went on a 5-0 run to take a 13-8 lead and never looked back to pull out the sweep.
Kennedy finished with 10 kills, two blocks, and three digs to lead the Bulldogs.
Maddie Kemp finished with seven kills, Rachel Hein five kills and four digs, and Karie Reiber four digs.
Saline was led by Olivia Vance with seven kills and two blocks. Brianna Woods added six kills and three blocks, while Julia Blaney had six kills. Kenda Robison and Kaija Sydlowski had five kills each, Hannah Blaney 15 digs, and Haley Blaney 12 digs. Julianna Pena led the offense with 18 assists, while Ellie Munn dished out 13 assists. Kathryn Wilkie added three blocks.
