City of Chelsea Police Report, April 2024

In April 2024, Officers responded to 309 calls for police service, down from 407 the previous year for a 24% decrease. Total calls for 2024 (Jan-Apr) are 1,353, down from 1,687 for the same period last year, a 20% decrease.

Officers conducted 90 traffic stops, down from 159 last year. Twenty-seven citations and 63 warnings were issued.

Notable events from Police Chief Kazyak’s report include

  • Ten crashes
  • Three assaults
  • Two B&E
  • Two larcenies
  • One vehicle theft
  • Three obstructing justice
  • 87 miscellaneous complaints
  • 147 non-criminal complaints

Of CPD’s 73 cases:

  • 29 remain open
  • One awaits lab analysis
  • 17 have been turned over to the prosecutor
  • 26 are closed

Chief Kazyak thanked the public for their patience during the emergency railroad repairs at McKinley St between Jackson St and Dexter-Chelsea Rd. The Police Chief recently held an informational meeting and thanked everyone who attended.

Kazyak announced that on June 20, CPD, Chelsea Area Fire Authority, and Manchester Towing will hold its second annual Public Safety Night from 6-8 pm in the parking lot behind the police station. Public safety vehicles will be displayed for kids to explore, and the dunk tank will again be in operation.
