City of Chelsea Police Report, May 2024

In May 2024, Officers responded to 363 calls for police service in the City of Chelsea, down from 427 the previous year, a 15% drop. Total calls for 2024 (Jan-May) are 1,716, down from 2,114 for the same period last here, a 19% decrease.

Officers conducted 89 traffic stops, down from 114 last year. Thirty-two citations were issued.

Notable events from Chief Kazyak’s report include:

  • 23 crashes
  • One sexual assault
  • Two assaults
  • One robbery
  • One extortion
  • Five thefts
  • Three frauds
  • Two OUI
  • 88 miscellaneous complaints
  • 174 non-criminal complaints

Of Chelsea Police Department’s 74 cases:

  • 26 remain open
  • Two await lab analysis
  • 14 have been turned over to the prosecutor
  • 32 have been closed

“There were three incidents of larceny from vehicles,” Chief Kazyak told the city council. “Somebody got into some vehicles and took some items out. I would remind people to please lock their car doors. This is a safe community but we can keep it safer if you just lock the doors. They’re not breaking into cars anymore. They’re just sort of lifting handles. And that’s what happened on two of the three of these cases. So we’d asked everyone to continue to just lock their car doors.”
