City of Dexter: Housing and Community Character Public Engagement Meeting 10/24/2024

The City of Dexter is holding a public engagement meeting on October 24, 2024 regarding housing and community character, as part of an amendment to the Master Plan.

The City of Dexter Planning Commission began working on amendments to the Master Plan in early 2024. The amendments are funded by a $50,000 MSHDA Housing Readiness Grant and will examine policies related to the housing within and outside of the city limits, including understanding housing needs; evaluating lessons learned following implementation of the new Zoning Ordinance; and redefining policies regarding the extension of municipal services. The foundation of the housing readiness amendment process will be a series of community engagement meetings and workshops. Members of the public are invited to learn about the Master Plan housing readiness project and to share to share their thoughts regarding housing and what the “community character of Dexter” means to them.

“Our investment in the City of Dexter and other communities around the state is meant to directly remove barriers to new and affordable housing solutions,” said Amy Hovey, MSHDA CEO & Executive Director. “These problems didn’t crop up overnight, but we’re acting decisively as we continue to identify new and innovative solutions to confront the housing shortage in our state.”

The first Housing and Community Character Public Engagement meeting will be held on October 24, 2024, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Dexter District Library, 3255 Alpine Street, Dexter, MI 48130. For those unable to attend in person, please join by Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87943599919

The City of Dexter’s Planning Commission Chair, Matt Kowalski, shared, “With MSHDA’s help, the City of Dexter is extremely fortunate to be afforded the exciting opportunity to review our housing status, needs, and desires. We have an amazing community and this meeting is for City leaders to hear ideas from all residents and business owners on how to make our community more inclusive. For instance, by expanding our housing options while enhancing the livability and vitality of our community.  Please help spread the word, all feedback is welcome. Let’s make a City of Dexter that can keep those who want to stay and can welcome all those who want to be part of Dexter!”
