Detroit Red Wings Delight St. Mary Students

Wings stress importance of healthy lifestyle to kids

Pinckney, Mich., October 1, 2018: Representatives from the Detroit Red Wings visited St. Mary students last week during a school assembly to reinforce the importance of healthy living, share valuable life skills, and explain the great sport of hockey.

The assembly focused on exercise, eating healthy, and trying your best in school. These topics are also reinforced though St. Mary’s membership in Project Healthy Schools, a commitment to teaching nutrition and maintaining a healthy school environment to reduce childhood obesity.

Red Wings trivia was sprinkled in, too, and students scored Red Wings t-shirts, pencil pouches and water bottles.

During an exciting best-of-five shootout competition, students bested teachers, and the Red Wings donated a full set of team street hockey equipment and goalie gear to the school.

The assembly was sponsored by Michigan Education Savings Plan (MESP) and St. Joseph Mercy Health System.
