Dexter and Pinckney Split Pair on Softball Diamond

By Mike Williamson –

It was a tale of two games in the SEC White softball doubleheader between Dexter and Pinckney Friday as the teams split a pair of contests.

Pinckney controlled the opener behind the pitching oh Hannah Fuhr.

Fuhr allowed just five hits and struck out ten as the Pirates took the opener 6-1.

The Pirates capitalized on a hit batter and two walks in the first inning as Fuhr singled to right to drive in a pair of runs for a 2-0 Pirate lead.

Pinckney added a run in the third to make it 3-0 and then three straight hits by Britney Lapum, Shawna Wallace, and McKenna Pilley plated three runs to make it 6-0 in the fourth.

Dexter scored a run in the fifth but would get no closer as Fuhr shut them down.

Fuhr, Lapum, Pilley, and Molly Miller collected two hits each to lead Pinckney.

Sam Sutton had two hits to lead Dexter. Jenna Wagenschutz, Livvy Mellifont, and Mack Gordon each had a hit for the Dreads.

The second game was all Dreadnaughts as they scored 14 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 19-0 three-inning win.

A leadoff walk and a Sutton two-run blast gave the Dreads a 2-0 lead and they were off to the races.  The Dreadnaughts would send 13 batters to the plate before the first out was recorded and with one out Maddy Stroia smacked a grand slam to make it 14-0.

Sutton finished with three hits and four RBI and was the winning pitcher striking out three.

Lillie Robeson had three hits and two RBI and Emily Lance three hits and one RBI. Emma Sortor had two hits and one RBI, Mellifont two hits and three RBI, Wagenschut and Kristy Maitland a hit and RBI each, Stroia a grand slam and four RBI, and Katy McWilliams and hit and run scored.

Wallace, Fuhr, Ashley Fransee, and Gaby Bohn had hits for Pinckney.

Dexter is 1-1 in the SEC White, while Pinckney is 3-1 in the conference.
