The school board ratified the tentative agreement between Dexter Community Schools and the West Washtenaw Bus Drivers and Monitors Association that will be effective through June 30, 2022.

On July 3, the West Washtenaw Bus Drivers and Monitors Association ratified the tentative agreement with DCS.

DCS Superintendent Chris Timmis said the transportation contract includes two sections specifically designed to help fill shortages.

“We’re hopeful it helps,” Timmis said.

According to the summary of the contract, for the 2019–2020 year, WWBDAMA members will receive on schedule increases, steps and an off schedule payment of 4 percent of the 2018–2019 salary to be paid in October to actively employed employees.

The salary changes for 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 will increase all WWBDAMA member salaries and include steps.

The agreement includes financial bonuses for WWBDAMA employees that refer a driver for employment and regular attendance.

“This agreement strives to best serve our students and through providing an optimal working relationship with our support staff,” DCS administration said in its summary.

The school board also reached a three-year agreement with the Dexter Education Support Personnel Association, who also ratified the tentative contract.

According to DCS, this agreement will run from 2019-2022 and for the 2019–2020 year, DESPA members will receive a 1.1 percent on schedule increase, steps and an off schedule payment of 3 percent of the 2018–2019 salary to be paid in October to actively employed employees.

The salary changes for 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 will increase all DESPA member salaries by 1.1 percent and include steps. The agreement also includes a stipend for Para-educators that work with students that have complex needs, and language changes to align with current law and to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.

“This agreement reflects two months of negotiations and strives to best serve our students and through providing an optimal working relationship with our support staff,” DCS administration said in its summary of the agreement.
