The Dexter boys’ basktball team returned from its holiday break at the Hartland Tournament Friday night, but came up on the short end of a 67-63 decision to Fowlerville in the opening round.
The Dreads started cold as Fowlerville jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first before Colin Parachek put Dexter on the board with a pair of free throws.
Fowlerville’s lead grew to 12-2, but baskets by Marco Lucchesi and Parachek it 15-6 after one.
Dexter came to life in the second rallying back to tie the game at 23. The Dreads had two chances to take the lead, but could not covert and Fowlerville finished on a 10-7 run to lead 33-30 at the half.
The Gladiators led 42-37 with two minutes left in the third, but Andy Durand scored seven straight points, including a long three-pointer at the buzzer to give Dexter its first lead of the night 44-42 after three.
Fowlerville answered to start the fourth taking a 52-48 lead. The Gladiators lead would grow to 57-50 with three minutes left.
Lucchesi and Durand hit baskets to cut the lead to 57-54 and force a Gladiator timeout. Another Lucchesi basket cut the lead to one, but Fowlerville hit an and-one to build the lead back to four.
A basket by Durand and a triple by Ryan Trinkle with 36 seconds left put Dexter on top, but Fowlerville hit a lay-in to make it 62-61.
Parachek hit a pair of free throws to make it 63-62, but Fowlerville nailed a long three-pointer with 20 seconds left to make it 65-63. Dexter missed a shot and fouled with seven seconds left. The Glads hit the first and missed the second, but the Dreadnaughts were called for a lane violation, giving Fowlerville another shot and they sank it to make it a four point game 67-63 and seal the win.
Parachek led Dexter with 17 points, while Durand finished with 13. Trinkle finished with 12, Antwan Ficklen and Lucchesi eight each, Zach Koone three, and Caden Doll two.
