The Dexter field hockey team defeated Ann Arbor Huron 1-0 last week and remained undefeated on the season with a 10-0-2 overall record.

The win also clinched a tie for the top spot in Division 1 with Saline for the regular-season crown. The teams both finished with 5-0-2 records in Division 1 and will be the top seeds heading into the state playoffs in two weeks.

The Dreadnaughts dominated Huron, outshooting them 10-2 in the match. Dexter had seven power plays in the first half but could not find the net.

They finally broke through early in the second half when Gracie Burns scored at the 2:25 mark with an assist to Abigail Tamer.

The Dreads defense did the rest as Maggie Jones earned the shutout with two saves.

Earlier in the week, the Dreadnaughts blanked Dearborn 6-0 in a non-conference match-up.

Kylee Niswonger, Tamer, Burns, and Samantha Skinner scored first-half goals as the Dreads took control. Tamer would score two more goals in the second half to earn the hat trick.

Tamer, Niswonger, Shannon Schoch, and Lindsey Doyle collected assists for Dexter.

September 25, the Dreadnaughts knocked off previously undefeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 2-1.

Claire Vaughn scored a first-half goal as the teams headed into the break tied at 1-1.

Annalisa Shehab scored the game-winner at 24:34 of the second period with an assist to Tamer.

The Dreads will battle for the first SEC title when they take on Saline, Pioneer, and Huron over the next two weeks.
