The Dexter girls’ lacrosse team opened its season with a strong 12-8 win over Bedford Wednesday night.
The Dreadnaughts are a young and fairly inexperienced team with four players never playing lacrosse before, but their seniors are helping lead the new players along.
Senior Captain Marin Waddington picked up five goals and an assist to lead the Dreadnaughts.
Skylar Waddington also added five goals for Dexter. First-year player Claire Vaughn scored a goal, while another first-year player Elisa Rizzini picked up an assist. Senior captain Alisha Birchmeier also picked up an assist.
“It was our first game, so we still have lots to improve on and work to do,” Coach Taylor Haverty said. “That being said, I was pleased with the movement on offense and the communication on defense.”
The Dreads will return to action after spring break when they host Tecumseh April 11.
